KitesAhh, there’s nothing quite like doing 30mph on a sunny day, with your arse 3 inches above the ground. Well really there is but it’s a good opening line. I’ve been riding my buggy for about 2 years now, flying power kites for a year longer and delta’s/stunt kites since I were a young ‘un. It’s a great escape, you get to spend a lot of time outside enjoying the weather (lol) and it’s good if you want to be alone (just cruising) or socialising with fellow buggier’s (some do more chatting than flying!), racing them is fun too. If you are so inclined showing off is an admirable endeavour. You can find a basic description of the main different types of kites and how kites in general work here. I can do a few tricks on my buggy, although I have to admit I have been remiss with my practice over the last year, so might be a bit rusty if commanded to perform. So far the list sits at:
Wheelie Wheelie with a wave (no harness, so I think it’s hard…) Wrong-side wheelie (well I’ve done it on a few occasions, on purpose) Power slides Going backwards (needs practice!) Turning upwind 360’s (can almost do them again!) I did a 540, twice, the 2nd time I got yanked out backwards, I don’t try them anymore…
I really need to get out flying more often, show up some of these new comers, hehe.
My kit
I have in my kit bag:
2001 Flexifoil Buggy, with wide wheels 3m PKD Buster, on 30m Ozone Lines 3.5m Ozone Razor, on 30m Ozone Lines 4.9m Flexifoil Blade, on Flexi 500/300kg lines 6, 8&10ft Flexi stackers (they don’t make it out very often!) Spirit of Air Shiroken (8ft ballet kite)
No-wind kite bag:
Juggling balls from Windthings Football + pump (cos it goes flat) Pictures: (not nearly enough yet!)
