The movies (page to be completed)

I don’t know why I like the cinema so much, it is a nice escape, of course, but I suppose I just like the tales they tell. There’s more to it I know, but that’s the basic precept. It also nicely explains why films with poor plots and good acting are never as enjoyable as ones with poor acting and good plots. Hmmm, I’ll have to think about that to decide if it’s true.

My taste is reasonably varied; although I tend to have an aversion to black&white and non-English speaking films. I don’t tend to get too much exposure to either of those kinds of films to be honest, whether it’s by choice, lack of knowledge of the content or the lack of availability, I haven’t decided.

Right then, what kind of films do I like? Well my favourites are usually dark comedies, but I do not like slapstick-esque stuff. Intelligent comedy, it’s the way to go. I do also like action/ thriller /sci-fi etc. but I don’t want to stuck in genres – I find it’s much more unique than applying a genre. It is, however, fair to say I don’t like musicals or cheesy romantic films. I dislike them as much as vapour ridden ‘arte’ films where the whole point is that there is no point? They are as bad as some of the ‘art’ I saw at the Tate – pretentious and largely meaningless.

So, I suppose my taste isn’t terribly unusual, the smart funny movie always suits the bill, but I tend not to buy so many of them for some reason that escapes me. I don’t go to the cinema on my own, as a rule, in fact I can only think of once before (it wasn’t my fault – I’d just moved into a flat in embra, it was summer, didn’t know anyone in the city and there was no TV, no radio and no reading material. Plus it was about 300m from the cinema…), I just prefer to share the experience with other people. Then you can both bitch and moan about whatever vacuous blockbuster you’ve just wasted 3 hours of your life watching, nice.

So, we are onto THE LIST:
