Reel Big Fish!

Excellent gig. Held at Moshulu (eugh), Aberdeen on a Monday evening. Me, Chris and Marion went along, we turned up late, after doors were due to open, actually (7pm). There was a massive queue round the corner so we nipped into The Basement (eugh, again) to grab a couple of beers. We could see the queue outside, not moving, in fact the doors opened about 35 minutes late, which was fine. As we were tucking in to our 2nd round, we'd found that even though there were lots of free seats around us, they were all reserved. So the queue begins to move, finally, and the band members appear, taking up the empty seats, proceeding to have their dinner right beside us. That was pretty cool.

We finally go through the doors at about 8, the first band had already started, so we didn't catch their name. the 2nd support kicked off about a half hour later. RBF came on around 9:30pm. I have to say the beer was ice cold, which was nice and hid the not so great taste quite well. After the first 2 or 3 songs, I kinda ditched C&M (apologies) and headed in to the crowd. I managed to get right up front pretty quickly. They were a friendly crowd, for sure. Almost moshing along, it was ace. I'm not sure how it started, but crowd surfing began fairly early on, only it seemed to involve picking up random folk, passing them to the front and throwing them over the barrier at the security staff. That suited me fine, as long as I managed to duck the flailing limbs, I was in a perfect spot to help lob them over the barrier at the last minute.

A solid set, the band didn't miss a beat. I got the feeling that they rushed it a little, probably because of the late start. When I finally emerged from the crowd, I was soaked in alcohol/water/sweat, it was not pleasant.

A thoroughly enjoyable experience, I'd definitely go again, it was one of the liveliest gigs I've been to and with absolutely no violence.

Bitchin!
